The professional summary is the most important part of your NZ CV. It sits directly below your contact details and is the first substantive thing a recruiter reads. Get it wrong and everything else may never be seen.
What Is a Professional Summary?
A professional summary (also called a profile statement) is a 3–4 sentence paragraph at the top of your CV. It replaces the old-fashioned "objective statement" — instead of telling the employer what you want, it tells them what you offer.
The Professional Summary Formula
- Sentence 1: Professional identity + years of experience in this area.
- Sentence 2: Two or three specific strengths directly relevant to this role.
- Sentence 3: A concrete achievement or credential that validates the claim.
- Sentence 4 (optional): What you are looking for next — brief and role-specific.
